|
God gave special thought to Noah,
and to all the beasts and livestock
with him in the ark. God made a wind
blow on the earth, and the waters
began to subside.
Vayizkor Elohim et-Noach ve'et
kol-hachayah ve'et-kol-habehemah
asher ito batevah vaya'aver Elohim
ruach al-ha'arets vayashoku hamayim.

וַיִּזְכֹּ֤ר
אֱלֹהִים֙ אֶת־נֹ֔חַ וְאֵ֤ת
כָּל־הַֽחַיָּה֙
וְאֶת־כָּל־הַבְּהֵמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר
אִתּ֖וֹ בַּתֵּבָ֑ה וַיַּעֲבֵ֨ר
אֱלֹהִ֥ים ר֙וּחַ֙ עַל־הָאָ֔רֶץ
וַיָּשֹׁ֖כּוּ הַמָּֽיִם׃

8:2
|
The wellsprings of the deep and the
floodgates of heaven were sealed.
The downpour from the heavens thus
stopped.
Vayisachru mayenot tehom va'arubot
hashamayim vayikale hageshem
min-hashamayim.
|
|
וַיִּסָּֽכְרוּ֙ מַעְיְנֹ֣ת תְּה֔וֹם
וַֽאֲרֻבֹּ֖ת הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם
וַיִּכָּלֵ֥א הַגֶּ֖שֶׁם
מִן־הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

8:3
|
The waters receded from the earth.
They continued to recede, and at the
end of 150 days, the water had [visibly] diminished.
Vayashuvu hamayim me'al ha'arets
haloch vashov vayachseru hamayim
miktseh chamishim ume'at yom.
|
|
וַיָּשֻׁ֧בוּ
הַמַּ֛יִם מֵעַ֥ל הָאָ֖רֶץ הָל֣וֹךְ
וָשׁ֑וֹב וַיַּחְסְר֣וּ הַמַּ֔יִם
מִקְצֵ֕ה חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים וּמְאַ֖ת יֽוֹם׃
|
8:4
|
In the seventh month, on the 17th day of the month,
the ark came to rest on the Ararat Mountains.
Vatanach hatevah bachodesh hashvi'i
beshiv'ah-asar yom lachodesh al
harey Ararat.

וַתָּ֤נַח
הַתֵּבָה֙ בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י
בְּשִׁבְעָה־עָשָׂ֥ר י֖וֹם לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ
עַ֖ל הָרֵ֥י אֲרָרָֽט׃
|
8:5
|
The waters continued to diminish
[visibly] until the tenth month.In the tenth month, on the first of the month,
the mountain peaks became visible.
Vehamayim hayu haloch vechasor ad
hachodesh ha'asiri ba'asiri be'echad
lachodesh nir'u rashey heharim.

וְהַמַּ֗יִם
הָיוּ֙ הָל֣וֹךְ וְחָס֔וֹר עַ֖ד
הַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הָֽעֲשִׂירִ֑י
בָּֽעֲשִׂירִי֙ בְּאֶחָ֣ד לַחֹ֔דֶשׁ
נִרְא֖וּ רָאשֵׁ֥י הֶֽהָרִֽים׃

8:6
|
After forty days, Noah opened the
window he had made in the ark.
Veyehi mikets arba'im yom vayiftach
Noach et-chalon hatevah asher asah.
|
|
וַֽיְהִ֕י
מִקֵּ֖ץ אַרְבָּעִ֣ים י֑וֹם
וַיִּפְתַּ֣ח נֹ֔חַ אֶת־חַלּ֥וֹן
הַתֵּבָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָֽׂה׃
|
8:7
|
He sent out the raven, and it
departed. It went back and forth
until the water had dried up from
the land's surface.
Vayeshalach et-ha'orev vayetse yatso
vashov ad-yevoshet hamayim me'al
ha'arets.
|
|
וַיְשַׁלַּ֖ח
אֶת־הָֽעֹרֵ֑ב וַיֵּצֵ֤א יָצוֹא֙
וָשׁ֔וֹב עַד־יְבֹ֥שֶׁת הַמַּ֖יִם
מֵעַ֥ל הָאָֽרֶץ׃
|
8:8
|
He then sent out the dove to see if
the water had subsided from the
land's surface.
Vayeshalach et-hayonah me'ito lir'ot
hakalu hamayim me'al peney
ha'adamah.
|
|
וַיְשַׁלַּ֥ח
אֶת־הַיּוֹנָ֖ה מֵאִתּ֑וֹ לִרְאוֹת֙
הֲקַ֣לּוּ הַמַּ֔יִם מֵעַ֖ל פְּנֵ֥י
הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃
|
8:9
|
The dove could not find any place to
rest its feet, and it returned to
him, to the ark. There was still
water over all the earth's surface.
[Noah] stretched out his hand, and
brought it to him in the ark.
Velo-mats'ah hayonah manoach
lechaf-raglah vatashov elav
el-hatevah ki mayim al-peney
chol-ha'arets vayishlach yado
vayikacheha vayaveh otah elav
el-hatevah.

וְלֹֽא־מָצְאָה֩ הַיּוֹנָ֨ה מָנ֜וֹחַ
לְכַף־רַגְלָ֗הּ וַתָּ֤שָׁב אֵלָיו֙
אֶל־הַתֵּבָ֔ה כִּי־מַ֖יִם
עַל־פְּנֵ֣י כָל־הָאָ֑רֶץ
וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יָדוֹ֙ וַיִּקָּחֶ֔הָ
וַיָּבֵ֥א אֹתָ֛הּ אֵלָ֖יו
אֶל־הַתֵּבָֽה׃

8:10
|
He waited another seven days, and
once again sent the dove out from
the ark.
Vayachel od shiv'at yamim acherim
vayosef shalach et-hayonah
min-hatevah.
|
|
וַיָּ֣חֶל
ע֔וֹד שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִ֖ים אֲחֵרִ֑ים
וַיֹּ֛סֶף שַׁלַּ֥ח אֶת־הַיּוֹנָ֖ה
מִן־הַתֵּבָֽה׃

8:11
|
The dove returned to him toward
evening, and there was a
freshly-plucked olive leaf in its
beak. Noah then knew that the water
had subsided from the earth.
Vatavo elav hayonah le'et erev
vehineh aleh-zayit taraf befiha
vayeda Noach ki-kalu hamayim me'al
ha'arets.

וַתָּבֹ֨א
אֵלָ֤יו הַיּוֹנָה֙ לְעֵ֣ת עֶ֔רֶב
וְהִנֵּ֥ה עֲלֵה־זַ֖יִת טָרָ֣ף
בְּפִ֑יהָ וַיֵּ֣דַע נֹ֔חַ
כִּי־קַ֥לּוּ הַמַּ֖יִם מֵעַ֥ל
הָאָֽרֶץ׃

8:12
|
He waited yet another seven days and
sent out the dove [again]. This time
it did not return to him any more.
Vayiyachel od shiv'at yamim acherim
vayeshalach et-hayonah velo-yasfah
shuv-elav od.
|
|
וַיִּיָּ֣חֶל
ע֔וֹד שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִ֖ים אֲחֵרִ֑ים
וַיְשַׁלַּח֙ אֶת־הַיּוֹנָ֔ה
וְלֹֽא־יָסְפָ֥ה שׁוּב־אֵלָ֖יו עֽוֹד׃
|
8:13
|
In the 601st year [of Noah's life], in the first [month], on the first
of the month,
the land was drained off and Noah
removed the ark's hatch. He saw that
the land's surface was beginning to
dry.
Vayehi be'achat veshesh-me'ot shanah
barishon be'echad lachodesh charevu
hamayim me'al ha'arets vayasar Noach
et-michseh hatevah vayar vehineh
charevu peney ha'adamah.

וַֽ֠יְהִי
בְּאַחַ֨ת וְשֵׁשׁ־מֵא֜וֹת שָׁנָ֗ה
בָּֽרִאשׁוֹן֙ בְּאֶחָ֣ד לַחֹ֔דֶשׁ
חָֽרְב֥וּ הַמַּ֖יִם מֵעַ֣ל הָאָ֑רֶץ
וַיָּ֤סַר נֹ֙חַ֙ אֶת־מִכְסֵ֣ה
הַתֵּבָ֔ה וַיַּ֕רְא וְהִנֵּ֥ה
חָֽרְב֖וּ פְּנֵ֥י הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃

8:14
|
By the second month, on the 27th day of the month,
the land was completely dry.
Uvachodesh hasheni beshive'ah
ve'esrim yom lachodesh yaveshah
ha'arets.
|
|
וּבַחֹ֙דֶשׁ֙
הַשֵּׁנִ֔י בְּשִׁבְעָ֧ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֛ים
י֖וֹם לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ יָבְשָׁ֖ה הָאָֽרֶץ׃

8:15
|
God spoke to Noah saying,
Vayedaber Elohim el-Noach lemor.
|
|
וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר
אֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶל־נֹ֥חַ לֵאמֹֽר׃
|
8:16
|
'Leave the ark - you, along with
your wife, your sons, and your son's
wives.
Tse min-hatevah atah ve'ishtecha
uvaneycha unshey-vaneycha itach.
|
|
צֵ֖א
מִן־הַתֵּבָ֑ה אַתָּ֕ה וְאִשְׁתְּךָ֛
וּבָנֶ֥יךָ וּנְשֵֽׁי־בָנֶ֖יךָ
אִתָּֽךְ׃
|
8:17
|
Take out with you every living
creature from all flesh: birds,
livestock, and all land animals that
walk the earth. Let them swarm on
the land. They shall breed and
multiply on the earth.'
Kol-hachayah asher itcha mikol-basar
ba'of uvabehemah uvechol-haremes
haromes al-ha'arets hayetse itach
vesharetsu va'arets ufaru veravu
al-ha'arets.

כָּל־הַחַיָּ֨ה
אֲשֶֽׁר־אִתְּךָ֜ מִכָּל־בָּשָׂ֗ר
בָּע֧וֹף וּבַבְּהֵמָ֛ה
וּבְכָל־הָרֶ֛מֶשׂ הָרֹמֵ֥שׂ
עַל־הָאָ֖רֶץ הוצא [הַיְצֵ֣א]
אִתָּ֑ךְ וְשָֽׁרְצ֣וּ בָאָ֔רֶץ
וּפָר֥וּ וְרָב֖וּ עַל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

8:18
|
Noah left the ark along with his
sons, his wife, and his sons' wives.
Vayetse-Noach uvanav ve'ishto
uneshey-vanav ito.
|
|
וַיֵּ֖צֵא־נֹ֑חַ וּבָנָ֛יו
וְאִשְׁתּ֥וֹ וּנְשֵֽׁי־בָנָ֖יו
אִתּֽוֹ׃
|
8:19
|
Every beast, every land animal, and
every bird - all that walk the land
- left the ark by families.
Kol-hachayah kol-haremes
vechol-ha'of kol-romes al-ha'arets
lemishpechoteyhem yatse'u
min-hatevah.
|
|
כָּל־הַֽחַיָּ֗ה כָּל־הָרֶ֙מֶשׂ֙
וְכָל־הָע֔וֹף כֹּ֖ל רוֹמֵ֣שׂ
עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ לְמִשְׁפְּחֹ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם
יָצְא֖וּ מִן־הַתֵּבָֽה׃

8:20
|
Noah built an altar to God. He took
a few of all the clean livestock and all the clean birds,
and he sacrificed completely burned offeringson
the altar.
Vayiven Noach mizbe'ach l'Adonay
vayikach mikol habehemah hatehorah
umikol ha'of hatahor vaya'al olot
bamizbe'ach.

וַיִּ֥בֶן
נֹ֛חַ מִזְבֵּ֖חַ לַֽיהוָ֑ה
וַיִּקַּ֞ח מִכֹּ֣ל ׀ הַבְּהֵמָ֣ה
הַטְּהוֹרָ֗ה וּמִכֹּל֙ הָע֣וֹף
הַטָּהֹ֔ר וַיַּ֥עַל עֹלֹ֖ת
בַּמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃

8:21
|
God smelled the appeasing fragrance,
and God said to Himself, 'Never
again will I curse the soil because
of man, for the inclination of man's
heart is evil from his youth. I will
never again strike down all life as
I have just done.
Vayarach Adonay et-re'ach hanichoach
vayomer Adonay el-libo lo osif
lekalel od et-ha'adamah ba'avur
ha'adam ki yetser lev ha'adam ra
mine'urav velo osif od lehakot
et-kol-chay ka'asher asiti.

וַיָּ֣רַח
יְהוָה֮ אֶת־רֵ֣יחַ הַנִּיחֹחַ֒
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־לִבּ֗וֹ
לֹֽא־אֹ֠סִף לְקַלֵּ֨ל ע֤וֹד
אֶת־הָֽאֲדָמָה֙ בַּעֲב֣וּר הָֽאָדָ֔ם
כִּ֠י יֵ֣צֶר לֵ֧ב הָאָדָ֛ם רַ֖ע
מִנְּעֻרָ֑יו וְלֹֽא־אֹסִ֥ף ע֛וֹד
לְהַכּ֥וֹת אֶת־כָּל־חַ֖י כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר
עָשִֽׂיתִי׃

8:22
|
As long as the earth lasts, seedtime
and harvest, cold and heat, summer
and winter, and day and night, shall
never again cease [to exist].'
Od kol-yemey ha'arets zera vekatsir
vekor vachom vekayits vachoref veyom
valaylah lo yishbotu.

עֹ֖ד
כָּל־יְמֵ֣י הָאָ֑רֶץ זֶ֡רַע
וְ֠קָצִיר וְקֹ֨ר וָחֹ֜ם וְקַ֧יִץ
וָחֹ֛רֶף וְי֥וֹם וָלַ֖יְלָה לֹ֥א
יִשְׁבֹּֽתוּ׃
