Man began to increase on the
face of the earth, and daughters
were born to them.
Vayehi ki-hechel ha'adam larov
al-peney ha'adamah uvanot yuledu
lahem.

וַֽיְהִי֙ כִּֽי־הֵחֵ֣ל הָֽאָדָ֔ם לָרֹ֖ב
עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הָֽאֲדָמָ֑ה וּבָנ֖וֹת
יֻלְּד֥וּ לָהֶֽם׃

6:2
|
The sons of God saw
that the daughters of man were
good, and they took themselves
wives from whomever they chose.
Vayir'u beney ha'Elohim et-benot
ha'adam ki tovot henah vayikchu
lahem nashim mikol asher
bacharu.

וַיִּרְא֤וּ
בְנֵי־הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ אֶת־בְּנ֣וֹת
הָֽאָדָ֔ם כִּ֥י טֹבֹ֖ת הֵ֑נָּה
וַיִּקְח֤וּ לָהֶם֙ נָשִׁ֔ים מִכֹּ֖ל
אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּחָֽרוּ׃

6:3
|
God said, 'My spirit will not
continue to judge man forever,
since he is nothing but flesh.
His days shall be 120 years.'
Vayomer Adonay lo-yadon ruchi
va'adam le'olam beshagam hu
vasar vehayu yamav me'ah
ve'esrim shanah.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר
יְהוָ֗ה לֹֽא־יָד֨וֹן רוּחִ֤י בָֽאָדָם֙
לְעֹלָ֔ם בְּשַׁגַּ֖ם ה֣וּא בָשָׂ֑ר
וְהָי֣וּ יָמָ֔יו מֵאָ֥ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים
שָׁנָֽה׃

6:4
|
The titans were
on the earth in those days and
also later. The sons of God had
come to the daughters of man and
had fathered them. [The titans]
were the mightiest ones who ever
existed, men of renown.

הַנְּפִלִ֞ים
הָי֣וּ בָאָרֶץ֮ בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵם֒
וְגַ֣ם אַֽחֲרֵי־כֵ֗ן אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָבֹ֜אוּ
בְּנֵ֤י הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ אֶל־בְּנ֣וֹת
הָֽאָדָ֔ם וְיָלְד֖וּ לָהֶ֑ם הֵ֧מָּה
הַגִּבֹּרִ֛ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר מֵעוֹלָ֖ם
אַנְשֵׁ֥י הַשֵּֽׁם׃ (פ)

|
God saw that man's wickedness on
earth was increasing. Every
impulse of his innermost thought
was only for evil, all day long.
Vayar Adonay ki rabah ra'at
ha'adam ba'arets vechol-yetser

kol-hayom.

וַיַּ֣רְא
יְהוָ֔ה כִּ֥י רַבָּ֛ה רָעַ֥ת הָאָדָ֖ם
בָּאָ֑רֶץ וְכָל־יֵ֙צֶר֙ מַחְשְׁבֹ֣ת
לִבּ֔וֹ רַ֥ק רַ֖ע כָּל־הַיּֽוֹם׃

6:6
|
God regretted that He had made
man on earth, and He was pained
to His very core.
Vayinachem Adonay ki asah
et-ha'adam ba'arets vayit'atsev
el-libo.

|
וַיִּנָּ֣חֶם
יְהוָ֔ה כִּֽי־עָשָׂ֥ה אֶת־הָֽאָדָ֖ם
בָּאָ֑רֶץ וַיִּתְעַצֵּ֖ב אֶל־לִבּֽוֹ׃
|
6:7
|
God said, 'I will obliterate
humanity that I have created
from the face of the earth -
man, livestock, land animals,
and birds of the sky. I regret
that I created them.'
Vayomer Adonay emecheh et
ha'adam asher-barati me'al peney
ha'adamah me'adam ad-behemah
ad-remes ve'ad-of hashamayim ki
nichamti ki asitim.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר
יְהוָ֗ה אֶמְחֶ֨ה אֶת־הָאָדָ֤ם
אֲשֶׁר־בָּרָ֙אתִי֙ מֵעַל֙ פְּנֵ֣י
הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה מֵֽאָדָם֙ עַד־בְּהֵמָ֔ה
עַד־רֶ֖מֶשׂ וְעַד־ע֣וֹף הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם
כִּ֥י נִחַ֖מְתִּי כִּ֥י עֲשִׂיתִֽם׃

But Noah found favor in God's
eyes.

וְנֹ֕חַ מָ֥צָא
חֵ֖ן בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃ (פ)

6:9
|
These are the chronicles of
Noah:Noah was a righteous man, faultless in
his generation. Noah walked with
God.

אֵ֚לֶּה תּוֹלְדֹ֣ת נֹ֔חַ נֹ֗חַ אִ֥ישׁ
צַדִּ֛יק תָּמִ֥ים הָיָ֖ה בְּדֹֽרֹתָ֑יו
אֶת־הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים הִֽתְהַלֶּךְ־נֹֽחַ׃

6:10
|
Noah fathered three sons: Shem,
Ham and Yefeth.
Vayoled Noach shloshah vanim
et-Shem et-Cham ve'et-Yafet.

וַיּ֥וֹלֶד
נֹ֖חַ שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה בָנִ֑ים אֶת־שֵׁ֖ם
אֶת־חָ֥ם וְאֶת־יָֽפֶת׃

6:11
|
The world was corrupt before
God, and the land was filled
with crime.
Vatishachet ha'arets lifney
ha'Elohim vatimale ha'arets
chamas.

וַתִּשָּׁחֵ֥ת
הָאָ֖רֶץ לִפְנֵ֣י הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים
וַתִּמָּלֵ֥א הָאָ֖רֶץ חָמָֽס׃

6:12
|
God saw the world, and it was
corrupted. All flesh had
perverted its way on the earth.
Vayar Elohim et-ha'arets vehineh
nishchatah ki-hishchit kol-basar
et-darko al-ha'arets.

וַיַּ֧רְא
אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֶת־הָאָ֖רֶץ וְהִנֵּ֣ה
נִשְׁחָ֑תָה כִּֽי־הִשְׁחִ֧ית
כָּל־בָּשָׂ֛ר אֶת־דַּרְכּ֖וֹ
עַל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (ס)

6:13
|
God said to Noah, 'The end of
all flesh has come before Me.
The world is filled with [man's]
crime. I will therefore destroy
them with the earth.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר
אֱלֹהִ֜ים לְנֹ֗חַ קֵ֤ץ כָּל־בָּשָׂר֙
בָּ֣א לְפָנַ֔י כִּֽי־מָלְאָ֥ה הָאָ֛רֶץ
חָמָ֖ס מִפְּנֵיהֶ֑ם וְהִנְנִ֥י
מַשְׁחִיתָ֖ם אֶת־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

6:14
|
'Make yourself an ark of cypress wood.
Divide the ark into
compartments. Caulk the inside
and outside withpitch.
Aseh lecha tevat atsey-gofer
kinim ta'aseh et-hatevah
vechafarta otah mibayit umichuts
bakofer.

|
עֲשֵׂ֤ה לְךָ֙
תֵּבַ֣ת עֲצֵי־גֹ֔פֶר קִנִּ֖ים
תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֣ה אֶת־הַתֵּבָ֑ה וְכָֽפַרְתָּ֥
אֹתָ֛הּ מִבַּ֥יִת וּמִח֖וּץ בַּכֹּֽפֶר׃

6:15
|
This is how you shall construct
it: The ark's length shall be
300 cubits, its width 50 cubits,
and its height 30cubits.

chamishim amah rochbah ushloshim
amah komatah.

וְזֶ֕ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר
תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֖ה אֹתָ֑הּ שְׁלֹ֧שׁ מֵא֣וֹת
אַמָּ֗ה אֹ֚רֶךְ הַתֵּבָ֔ה חֲמִשִּׁ֤ים
אַמָּה֙ רָחְבָּ֔הּ וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים אַמָּ֖ה
קוֹמָתָֽהּ׃

צֹ֣הַר ׀
תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֣ה לַתֵּבָ֗ה וְאֶל־אַמָּה֙
תְּכַלֶ֣נָּה מִלְמַ֔עְלָה וּפֶ֥תַח
הַתֵּבָ֖ה בְּצִדָּ֣הּ תָּשִׂ֑ים
תַּחְתִּיִּ֛ם שְׁנִיִּ֥ם וּשְׁלִשִׁ֖ים
תַּֽעֲשֶֽׂהָ׃

6:17
|
'I Myself am bringing the flood.
Water shall be on the earth to
destroy from under the heavens
all flesh having in it a breath
of life. All that is on land
will die.
Va'ani hineni mevi et-hamabul
mayim al-ha'arets leshachet
kol-basar asher-bo ru'ach chayim
mitachat hashamayim kol-asher
ba'arets yigva.

וַאֲנִ֗י
הִנְנִי֩ מֵבִ֨יא אֶת־הַמַּבּ֥וּל מַ֙יִם֙
עַל־הָאָ֔רֶץ לְשַׁחֵ֣ת כָּל־בָּשָׂ֗ר
אֲשֶׁר־בּוֹ֙ ר֣וּחַ חַיִּ֔ים מִתַּ֖חַת
הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם כֹּ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־בָּאָ֖רֶץ
יִגְוָֽע׃

6:18
|
But I will keep My pledge that
you will come into the ark. You
will be together with your sons,
your wife, and your sons' wives.
Vahakimoti et-briti itach uvatah
el-hatevah atah uvaneycha
ve'ishtecha ushney-vaneycha
itach.

|
וַהֲקִמֹתִ֥י
אֶת־בְּרִיתִ֖י אִתָּ֑ךְ וּבָאתָ֙
אֶל־הַתֵּבָ֔ה אַתָּ֕ה וּבָנֶ֛יךָ
וְאִשְׁתְּךָ֥ וּנְשֵֽׁי־בָנֶ֖יךָ
אִתָּֽךְ׃

6:19
|
'From all life, all flesh, bring
two of each kind into the ark to
live with you. They shall be
male and female.
Umikol-hachay mikol-basar
shenayim mi-kol tavi el-hatevah
lehachayot itach zachar unekevah
yihyu.
|

|
וּמִכָּל־הָ֠חַי
מִֽכָּל־בָּשָׂ֞ר שְׁנַ֧יִם מִכֹּ֛ל
תָּבִ֥יא אֶל־הַתֵּבָ֖ה לְהַחֲיֹ֣ת
אִתָּ֑ךְ זָכָ֥ר וּנְקֵבָ֖ה יִֽהְיֽוּ׃

6:20
|
From each separate species of
bird, from each separate species
of livestock, and from each
separate species of land
animals, bring to yourself two
of each kind to live.
Meha'of leminehu umin-habehemah
leminah mikol remes ha'adamah
leminehu shenayim mikol yavo'u
eleycha lehachayot.

מֵהָע֣וֹף
לְמִינֵ֗הוּ וּמִן־הַבְּהֵמָה֙ לְמִינָ֔הּ
מִכֹּ֛ל רֶ֥מֶשׂ הָֽאֲדָמָ֖ה לְמִינֵ֑הוּ
שְׁנַ֧יִם מִכֹּ֛ל יָבֹ֥אוּ אֵלֶ֖יךָ
לְהַֽחֲיֽוֹת׃

6:21
|
Take with you all the food that
will be eaten, and keep it in
storage. It shall be food for
you and [the animals].'
Ve'atah kach-lecha
mikol-ma'achal asher ye'achel
ve'asafta eleycha vehayah lecha
velahem le'ochlah.

|
וְאַתָּ֣ה
קַח־לְךָ֗ מִכָּל־מַֽאֲכָל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר
יֵֽאָכֵ֔ל וְאָסַפְתָּ֖ אֵלֶ֑יךָ וְהָיָ֥ה
לְךָ֛ וְלָהֶ֖ם לְאָכְלָֽה׃

6:22
|
Noah did all that God had
commanded him. He did it [exactly].

tsivah oto Elohim ken asah.

וַיַּ֖עַשׂ נֹ֑חַ כְּ֠כֹל אֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֥ה
אֹת֛וֹ אֱלֹהִ֖ים כֵּ֥ן עָשָֽׂה׃ (ס)
