Ridge, N.Y.), American architect who , partnered with
Wallace K. Harrison to influence the development of
modernist architecture and helped shape the Manhattan
skyline with his designs for a number of midtown buildings.
He collaborated on such high-profile projects as the United
Nations complex in New York City and the Central
Intelligence Agency headquarters in Langley, Va., but he was
best known for his work on Philharmonic Hall (later Avery
Fisher Hall) at Lincoln Center, New York City.
