24:1

Abraham was old, well advanced in years, and God had blessed Abraham with everything. 
Ve'Avraham zaken ba bayamim va'Adonay berach et-Avraham bakol.

אוְאַבְרָהָ֣ם זָקֵ֔ן בָּ֖א בַּיָּמִ֑ים וַֽיהֹוָ֛ה בֵּרַ֥ךְ אֶת־אַבְרָהָ֖ם בַּכֹּֽל:

24:2

He said to the senior servant of his household, who was in charge of all that he owned, 'Place your hand under my thigh. 
Vayomer Avraham el-avdo zekan beyto hamoshel bechol-asher-lo sim-na yadeycha tachat yerechi.

בוַיֹּ֣אמֶר אַבְרָהָ֗ם אֶל־עַבְדּוֹ֙ זְקַ֣ן בֵּית֔וֹ הַמּשֵׁ֖ל בְּכָל־אֲשֶׁר־ל֑וֹ שִֽׂים־נָ֥א יָֽדְךָ֖ תַּ֥חַת יְרֵכִֽי:

24:3

I will bind you by an oath to God, Lord of heaven and earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites among whom I live. 
Ve'ashbiacha ba'Adonay Elohey hashamayim ve'Elohey ha'arets asher lo-tikach isha livni mibenot haKna'ani asher anochi yoshev bekirbo.

גוְאַשְׁבִּ֣יעֲךָ֔ בַּֽיהֹוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וֵֽאלֹהֵ֖י הָאָ֑רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֨ר לֹֽא־תִקַּ֤ח אִשָּׁה֙ לִבְנִ֔י מִבְּנוֹת֙ הַכְּנַֽעֲנִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָֽנֹכִ֖י יוֹשֵׁ֥ב בְּקִרְבּֽוֹ:

24:4

Instead, you must go to my native land, to my birthplace, and obtain a wife for my son Isaac.' 
Ki el-artsi ve'el-moladeti telech velakachta ishah liveni le-Yitschak.

דכִּ֧י אֶל־אַרְצִ֛י וְאֶל־מֽוֹלַדְתִּ֖י תֵּלֵ֑ךְ וְלָֽקַחְתָּ֥ אִשָּׁ֖ה לִבְנִ֥י לְיִצְחָֽק:

24:5

'But what if the girl does not want to come back with me to this land?' asked the servant. 'Shall I bring your son back to the land that you left?' 
Vayomer elav ha'eved ulay lo-toveh ha'ishah lalechet acharay el-ha'arets hazot hehashev ashiv et-bincha el-ha'arets asher-yatsata misham.

הוַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָיו֙ הָעֶ֔בֶד אוּלַי֙ לֹֽא־תֹאבֶ֣ה הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה לָלֶ֥כֶת אַֽחֲרַ֖י אֶל־הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֑את הֶֽהָשֵׁ֤ב אָשִׁיב֙ אֶת־בִּנְךָ֔ אֶל־הָאָ֖רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־יָצָ֥אתָ מִשָּֽׁם:

24:6

'Be most careful in this respect,' replied Abraham. 'Do not bring my son back there! 
Vayomer elav Avraham hishamer lecha pen-tashiv et-beni shamah.

ווַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֵלָ֖יו אַבְרָהָ֑ם הִשָּׁ֣מֶר לְךָ֔ פֶּן־תָּשִׁ֥יב אֶת־בְּנִ֖י שָֽׁמָּה:

24:7

God, the Lord of heaven, took me away from my father's house and the land of my birth. He spoke to me and made an oath. 'To your offspring I will give this land.' He will send His angel before you, and you will indeed find a wife there for my son. 
Adonay Elohey hashamayim asher lekachani mibeyt avi ume'erets moladeti va'asher diber-li va'asher nishba-li lemor lezar'acha eten et-ha'arets hazot hu yishlach mal'acho lefaneycha velakachta ishah liveni misham.

זיְהֹוָ֣ה | אֱלֹהֵ֣י הַשָּׁמַ֗יִם אֲשֶׁ֨ר לְקָחַ֜נִי מִבֵּ֣ית אָבִי֘ וּמֵאֶ֣רֶץ מֽוֹלַדְתִּי֒ וַֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבֶּר־לִ֜י וַֽאֲשֶׁ֤ר נִשְׁבַּע־לִי֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לְזַ֨רְעֲךָ֔ אֶתֵּ֖ן אֶת־הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֑את ה֗וּא יִשְׁלַ֤ח מַלְאָכוֹ֙ לְפָנֶ֔יךָ וְלָֽקַחְתָּ֥ אִשָּׁ֛ה לִבְנִ֖י מִשָּֽׁם:

24:8

If the girl does not want to come back with you, then you shall be absolved of my oath. But [no matter what,] do not bring my son back there!' 
Ve-im lo toveh ha'ishah lalechet achareycha venikita mishvuati zot rak et-beni lo tashev shamah.

חוְאִם־לֹ֨א תֹאבֶ֤ה הָֽאִשָּׁה֙ לָלֶ֣כֶת אַֽחֲרֶ֔יךָ וְנִקִּ֕יתָ מִשְּׁבֻֽעָתִ֖י זֹ֑את רַ֣ק אֶת־בְּנִ֔י לֹ֥א תָשֵׁ֖ב שָֽׁמָּה:

24:9

The servant placed his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and he took an oath regarding this. 
Vayasem ha'eved et-yado tachat yerech Avraham adonav vayishava lo al-hadavar hazeh.

טוַיָּ֤שֶׂם הָעֶ֨בֶד֙ אֶת־יָד֔וֹ תַּ֛חַת יֶ֥רֶךְ אַבְרָהָ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֑יו וַיִּשָּׁ֣בַע ל֔וֹ עַל־הַדָּבָ֖ר הַזֶּֽה:

24:10

Third Reading
The servant then took ten of his master's camels, bringing along the best things his master owned. He set off and went toAram Naharayim, to the city of Nachor. 
Vayikach ha'eved asarah gemalim migmaley adonav vayelech vechol-tuv adonav beyado vayakom vayelech el-Aram Naharayim el-ir Nachor.

יוַיִּקַּ֣ח הָ֠עֶ֠בֶד עֲשָׂרָ֨ה גְמַלִּ֜ים מִגְּמַלֵּ֤י אֲדֹנָיו֙ וַיֵּ֔לֶךְ וְכָל־ט֥וּב אֲדֹנָ֖יו בְּיָד֑וֹ וַיָּ֗קָם וַיֵּ֛לֶךְ אֶל־אֲרַ֥ם נַֽהֲרַ֖יִם אֶל־עִ֥יר נָחֽוֹר:

24:11

[When he arrived,] he let the camels rest on their knees outside the city, beside the well. It was in the evening when women go out to draw water. 
Vayavrech hagemalim michuts la'ir el-be'er hamayim le'et erev le'et tset hasho'avot.

יאוַיַּבְרֵ֧ךְ הַגְּמַלִּ֛ים מִח֥וּץ לָעִ֖יר אֶל־בְּאֵ֣ר הַמָּ֑יִם לְעֵ֣ת עֶ֔רֶב לְעֵ֖ת צֵ֥את הַשֹּֽׁאֲבֹֽת:

24:12

He prayed, 'O God, Lord of my master Abraham: Be with me today, and grant a favor to my master Abraham. 
Vayomar Adonay Elohey adoni Avraham hakreh-na lefanay hayom va'aseh chesed im adoni Avraham.

יבוַיֹּאמַר֓ | יְהֹוָ֗ה אֱלֹהֵי֙ אֲדֹנִ֣י אַבְרָהָ֔ם הַקְרֵה־נָ֥א לְפָנַ֖י הַיּ֑וֹם וַֽעֲשֵׂה־חֶ֕סֶד עִ֖ם אֲדֹנִ֥י אַבְרָהָֽם:

24:13

I am standing here by the well, and the daughters of the townsmen are coming out to draw water. 
Hineh anochi nitsav al-eyn hamayim uvenot anshey ha'ir yotse'ot lish'ov mayim.

יגהִנֵּ֛ה אָֽנֹכִ֥י נִצָּ֖ב עַל־עֵ֣ין הַמָּ֑יִם וּבְנוֹת֙ אַנְשֵׁ֣י הָעִ֔יר יֹֽצְאֹ֖ת לִשְׁאֹ֥ב מָֽיִם:

24:14

If I say to a girl, 'Tip over your jug and let me have a drink,' and she replies, 'Drink, and I will also water your camels,' she will be the one whom You have designated for Your servant Isaac. [If there is such a girl,] I will know that You have granted a favor for my master.' 
Vehayah hana'arah asher omar eleyha hati-na chadef ve'eshteh ve'amerah sheteh vegam gemaleycha ashkeh otah hochachta le'avdechah le-Yitschak uvah eda ki-asita chesed im-adoni.

ידוְהָיָ֣ה הַנַּֽעֲרָ֗ה (כתיב הנער) אֲשֶׁ֨ר אֹמַ֤ר אֵלֶ֨יהָ֙ הַטִּי־נָ֤א כַדֵּךְ֙ וְאֶשְׁתֶּ֔ה וְאָֽמְרָ֣ה שְׁתֵ֔ה וְגַם־גְּמַלֶּ֖יךָ אַשְׁקֶ֑ה אֹתָ֤הּ הֹכַ֨חְתָּ֙ לְעַבְדְּךָ֣ לְיִצְחָ֔ק וּבָ֣הּ אֵדַ֔ע כִּֽי־עָשִׂ֥יתָ חֶ֖סֶד עִם־אֲדֹנִֽי:

24:15

He had not yet finished speaking, when Rebecca appeared.She had been born to Bethuel, the son of Milcah, the wife of Abraham's brother Nachor. Her jug was on her shoulder. 
Vayehi hu terem kilah ledaber vehineh Rivkah yotset asher yuldah li-Vetu'el ben-Milkah eshet Nachor achi Avraham vechadah al-shichmah.

טווַֽיְהִי־ה֗וּא טֶ֘רֶם֘ כִּלָּ֣ה לְדַבֵּר֒ וְהִנֵּ֧ה רִבְקָ֣ה יֹצֵ֗את אֲשֶׁ֤ר יֻלְּדָה֙ לִבְתוּאֵ֣ל בֶּן־מִלְכָּ֔ה אֵ֥שֶׁת נָח֖וֹר אֲחִ֣י אַבְרָהָ֑ם וְכַדָּ֖הּ עַל־שִׁכְמָֽהּ:

24:16

The girl was extremely good-looking, [and] she was a virgin untouched by any man. The girl went down, filled her jug, and then came up again. 
Vehana'arah tovat mar'eh me'od betulah ve'ish lo yeda'ah vatered ha'aynah vatemale chadah vata'al.

טזוְהַנַּֽעֲרָ֗ה (כתיב והנער) טֹבַ֤ת מַרְאֶה֙ מְאֹ֔ד בְּתוּלָ֕ה וְאִ֖ישׁ לֹ֣א יְדָעָ֑הּ וַתֵּ֣רֶד הָעַ֔יְנָה וַתְּמַלֵּ֥א כַדָּ֖הּ וַתָּֽעַל:

24:17

The servant ran toward her. 'If you would, let me sip a little water from your jug,' he said. 
Vayarots ha'eved likratah vayomer hagmi'ini na me'at-mayim mikadech.

יזוַיָּ֥רָץ הָעֶ֖בֶד לִקְרָאתָ֑הּ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר הַגְמִיאִ֥ינִי נָ֛א מְעַט־מַ֖יִם מִכַּדֵּֽךְ:

24:18

'Drink, Sir,' she replied. She quickly lowered her jug to her hand and gave him a drink. 
Vatomer sheteh adoni vatemaher vatored kadah al-yadah vatashkehu.

יחוַתֹּ֖אמֶר שְׁתֵ֣ה אֲדֹנִ֑י וַתְּמַהֵ֗ר וַתֹּ֧רֶד כַּדָּ֛הּ עַל־יָדָ֖הּ וַתַּשְׁקֵֽהוּ:

24:19

When he had finished drinking, she said, 'Let me draw water for your camels, so they can [also] drink their fill.' 
Vatechal lehashkoto vatomer gam ligmaleycha esh'av ad im-kilu lishtot.

יטוַתְּכַ֖ל לְהַשְׁקֹת֑וֹ וַתֹּ֗אמֶר גַּ֤ם לִגְמַלֶּ֨יךָ֙ אֶשְׁאָ֔ב עַ֥ד אִם־כִּלּ֖וּ לִשְׁתֹּֽת:

24:20

She quickly emptied her jug into the trough and ran to the well again to draw water. She drew water for all his camels. 
Vatemaher vate'ar kadah el-hashoket vatarats od el-habe'er lish'ov vatish'av lechol-gemalav.

כוַתְּמַהֵ֗ר וַתְּעַ֤ר כַּדָּהּ֙ אֶל־הַשֹּׁ֔קֶת וַתָּ֥רָץ ע֛וֹד אֶל־הַבְּאֵ֖ר לִשְׁאֹ֑ב וַתִּשְׁאַ֖ב לְכָל־גְּמַלָּֽיו:

24:21

The man stood there gaping at her. But he remained silent, waiting to determine for certain whether or not God had made his journey successful. 
Veha'ish mishta'eh lah macharish lada'at hahitsliach Adonay darko im-lo.

כאוְהָאִ֥ישׁ מִשְׁתָּאֵ֖ה לָ֑הּ מַֽחֲרִ֕ישׁ לָדַ֗עַת הַֽהִצְלִ֧יחַ יְהֹוָ֛ה דַּרְכּ֖וֹ אִם־לֹֽא:

24:22

When the camels had finished drinking, he took a gold ringweighing half a shekel, and two gold bracelets, weighing ten gold shekels, for her arms. 
Vayehi ka'asher kilu hagemalim lishtot vayikach ha'ish nezem zahav beka mishkalo usneh tsmidim al-yadeyha asarah-zahav mishkalam.

כבוַיְהִ֗י כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר כִּלּ֤וּ הַגְּמַלִּים֙ לִשְׁתּ֔וֹת וַיִּקַּ֤ח הָאִישׁ֙ נֶ֣זֶם זָהָ֔ב בֶּ֖קַע מִשְׁקָל֑וֹ וּשְׁנֵ֤י צְמִידִים֙ עַל־יָדֶ֔יהָ עֲשָׂרָ֥ה זָהָ֖ב מִשְׁקָלָֽם:

24:23

'Whose daughter are you?' he asked. 'If you would, tell me if there is a place in your father's house for us to spend the night.' 
Bat-mi at hagidi na li hayesh beyt-avich makom lanu lalin.

כגוַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ בַּת־מִ֣י אַ֔תְּ הַגִּ֥ידִי נָ֖א לִ֑י הֲיֵ֧שׁ בֵּֽית־אָבִ֛יךְ מָק֥וֹם לָ֖נוּ לָלִֽין:

24:24

She replied, 'I am the daughter of Bethuel, son of Milcah, whom she bore to Nachor.' 
Vatomer elav bat-Betu'el anochi ben-Milkah asher yaldah le-Nachor.

כדוַתֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֔יו בַּת־בְּתוּאֵ֖ל אָנֹ֑כִי בֶּן־מִלְכָּ֕ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָֽלְדָ֖ה לְנָחֽוֹר:

24:25

She then said, 'We have plenty of straw and fodder, as well as a place for people to spend the night.' 
Vatomer elav gam-teven gam-mispo rav imanu gam-makom lalun.

כהוַתֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֔יו גַּם־תֶּ֥בֶן גַּם־מִסְפּ֖וֹא רַ֣ב עִמָּ֑נוּ גַּם־מָק֖וֹם לָלֽוּן:

24:26

The man bowed low and prostrated himself to God. 
Vayikod ha'ish vayishtachu l'Adonay.

כווַיִּקֹּ֣ד הָאִ֔ישׁ וַיִּשְׁתַּ֖חוּ לַֽיהֹוָֽה:

24:27

Fourth Reading
He said, 'Blessed be God, Lord of my master Abraham, who has not withdrawn the kindness and truth that He grants to my master. Here I am, still on the road, and God has led me to the house of my master's close relatives!' 
Vayomer baruch Adonay Elohey adoni Avraham asher lo-azav chasdo va'amito me'im adoni anochi baderech nachani Adonay beyt achey adoni.

כזוַיֹּ֗אמֶר בָּר֤וּךְ יְהֹוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵי֙ אֲדֹנִ֣י אַבְרָהָ֔ם אֲ֠שֶׁ֠ר לֹֽא־עָזַ֥ב חַסְדּ֛וֹ וַֽאֲמִתּ֖וֹ מֵעִ֣ם אֲדֹנִ֑י אָֽנֹכִ֗י בַּדֶּ֨רֶךְ֙ נָחַ֣נִי יְהֹוָ֔ה בֵּ֖ית אֲחֵ֥י אֲדֹנִֽי:

24:28

The girl ran to her mother's quarters and told her what had happened. 
Vatarots hana'arah vataged leveyt imah kadevarim ha'eleh.

כחוַתָּ֨רָץ֙ הַנַּֽעֲרָ֔ה (כתיב הנער) וַתַּגֵּ֖ד לְבֵ֣ית אִמָּ֑הּ כַּדְּבָרִ֖ים הָאֵֽלֶּה:

24:29

Rebecca had a brother named Laban. He ran outside to thestranger, to the well. 
Ule-Rivkah ach ushemo Lavan vayarots Lavan el-ha'ish hachutsah el-ha'ayin.

כטוּלְרִבְקָ֥ה אָ֖ח וּשְׁמ֣וֹ לָבָ֑ן וַיָּ֨רָץ לָבָ֧ן אֶל־הָאִ֛ישׁ הַח֖וּצָה אֶל־הָעָֽיִן:

24:30

He had seen the ring, and the bracelets on his sister's arms, and had heard his sister Rebecca relating what the man had said to her. He came to the stranger, who was still standing beside the camels near the well, 
Vayehi kir'ot et-hanezem ve'et hatsmidim al-yedey achoto ucheshome'o et-diverey Rivekah achoto lemor koh-diber elay ha'ish vayavo el-ha'ish vehineh omed al-hagmalim al-ha'ayin.

לוַיְהִ֣י | כִּרְאֹ֣ת אֶת־הַנֶּ֗זֶם וְאֶת־הַצְּמִדִים֘ עַל־יְדֵ֣י אֲחֹתוֹ֒ וּכְשָׁמְע֗וֹ אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֞י רִבְקָ֤ה אֲחֹתוֹ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר כֹּֽה־דִבֶּ֥ר אֵלַ֖י הָאִ֑ישׁ וַיָּבֹא֙ אֶל־הָאִ֔ישׁ וְהִנֵּ֛ה עֹמֵ֥ד עַל־הַגְּמַלִּ֖ים עַל־הָעָֽיִן:

24:31

and said, 'Come! [You're a man] blessed by God! Why are you still standing there outside? I have cleaned the house and prepared a place for the camels.' 
Vayomer bo beruch Adonay lamah ta'amod bachuts ve'anochi piniti habayit umakom lagmalim.

לאוַיֹּ֕אמֶר בּ֖וֹא בְּר֣וּךְ יְהֹוָ֑ה לָ֤מָּה תַֽעֲמֹד֙ בַּח֔וּץ וְאָֽנֹכִי֙ פִּנִּ֣יתִי הַבַּ֔יִת וּמָק֖וֹם לַגְּמַלִּֽים:

24:32

The stranger came into the house and unmuzzled the camels. [Laban] gave the camels straw and fodder, and provided water [for the stranger] and the men with him to wash their feet. 
Vayavo ha'ish habaytah vayefatach hagemalim vayiten teven umispo lagemalim umayim lirchots raglav veragley ha'anashim asher ito.

לבוַיָּבֹ֤א הָאִישׁ֙ הַבַּ֔יְתָה וַיְפַתַּ֖ח הַגְּמַלִּ֑ים וַיִּתֵּ֨ן תֶּ֤בֶן וּמִסְפּוֹא֙ לַגְּמַלִּ֔ים וּמַ֨יִם֙ לִרְחֹ֣ץ רַגְלָ֔יו וְרַגְלֵ֥י הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר אִתּֽוֹ:

24:33

Food was served, but [the stranger] said, 'I will not eat until I have spoken my piece.'

'Speak,' replied [the host]. 
Vayusam lefanav le'echol vayomer lo ochal ad im-dibarti devaray vayomer daber.

לגוַיּוּשָׂ֤ם (כתיב ויישם) לְפָנָיו֙ לֶֽאֱכֹ֔ל וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ לֹ֣א אֹכַ֔ל עַ֥ד אִם־דִּבַּ֖רְתִּי דְּבָרָ֑י וַיֹּ֖אמֶר דַּבֵּֽר:

24:34

[The stranger] said, 'I am Abraham's servant. 
Vayomar eved Avraham anochi.

לדוַיֹּאמַ֑ר עֶ֥בֶד אַבְרָהָ֖ם אָנֹֽכִי:

24:35

God granted my master a very great blessing, and he prospered. [God] granted him sheep, cattle, silver, gold, slaves, slavegirls, camels and donkeys. 
V'Adonay berach et-adoni me'od vayigdal vayiten-lo tson uvakar vechesef vezahav va'avadim ushfachot ugmalim vachamorim.

להוַֽיהֹוָ֞ה בֵּרַ֧ךְ אֶת־אֲדֹנִ֛י מְאֹ֖ד וַיִּגְדָּ֑ל וַיִּתֶּן־ל֞וֹ צֹ֤אן וּבָקָר֙ וְכֶ֣סֶף וְזָהָ֔ב וַֽעֲבָדִם֙ וּשְׁפָחֹ֔ת וּגְמַלִּ֖ים וַֽחֲמֹרִֽים:

24:36

Finally, my master's wife Sarah gave birth to a son for my master after she had grown very old, and [my master] gave him all that he owned. 
Vateled Sarah eshet adoni ven la'adoni acharey ziknatah vayiten-lo et-kol-asher-lo.

לווַתֵּ֡לֶד שָׂרָה֩ אֵ֨שֶׁת אֲדֹנִ֥י בֵן֙ לַֽאדֹנִ֔י אַֽחֲרֵ֖י זִקְנָתָ֑הּ וַיִּתֶּן־ל֖וֹ אֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־לֽוֹ:

24:37

'My master bound me by an oath: 'Do not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live. 
Vayashbi'eyni adoni lemor lo-tikach ishah livni mibenot haKna'ani asher anochi yoshev be'artso.

לזוַיַּשְׁבִּעֵ֥נִי אֲדֹנִ֖י לֵאמֹ֑ר לֹֽא־תִקַּ֤ח אִשָּׁה֙ לִבְנִ֔י מִבְּנוֹת֙ הַכְּנַֽעֲנִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָֽנֹכִ֖י ישֵׁ֥ב בְּאַרְצֽוֹ:

24:38

Instead, you must go to my father's house, to my family, and there you shall get a wife for my son.' 
Im-lo el-beyt-avi telech ve'el-mishpachti velakachta ishah liveni.

לחאִם־לֹ֧א אֶל־בֵּֽית־אָבִ֛י תֵּלֵ֖ךְ וְאֶל־מִשְׁפַּחְתִּ֑י וְלָֽקַחְתָּ֥ אִשָּׁ֖ה לִבְנִֽי:

24:39

'I said to my master, 'But what if the girl will not come back with me?' 
Va'omar el-adoni ulay lo-telech ha'ishah acharay.

לטוָֽאֹמַ֖ר אֶל־אֲדֹנִ֑י אֻלַ֛י לֹֽא־תֵלֵ֥ךְ הָֽאִשָּׁ֖ה אַֽחֲרָֽי:

24:40

He said to me, 'God, before whom I have walked, will send His angel with you and make your mission successful. But you must find a wife for my son from my family and from my father's house. 
Vayomer elay Adonay asher-hithalachti lefanav yishlach mal'acho itach vehitsliach darkecha velakachta ishah livni mimishpachti umibeyt-avi.

מוַיֹּ֖אמֶר אֵלָ֑י יְהֹוָ֞ה אֲשֶׁר־הִתְהַלַּ֣כְתִּי לְפָנָ֗יו יִשְׁלַ֨ח מַלְאָכ֤וֹ אִתָּךְ֙ וְהִצְלִ֣יחַ דַּרְכֶּ֔ךָ וְלָֽקַחְתָּ֤ אִשָּׁה֙ לִבְנִ֔י מִמִּשְׁפַּחְתִּ֖י וּמִבֵּ֥ית אָבִֽי:

24:41

There is only one way that you can be free of my dread oath. If you go to my family and they do not give you a girl, you will be released from my dread oath.' 
Az tinake me'alati ki tavo el-mishpachti ve'im lo yitnu lach vehayita naki me'alati.

מאאָ֤ז תִּנָּקֶה֙ מֵאָ֣לָתִ֔י כִּ֥י תָב֖וֹא אֶל־מִשְׁפַּחְתִּ֑י וְאִם־לֹ֤א יִתְּנוּ֙ לָ֔ךְ וְהָיִ֥יתָ נָקִ֖י מֵאָֽלָתִֽי:

24:42

'Now today I came to the well, and I prayed, 'O God, Lord of my master Abraham, if You will, grant success to this mission that I am undertaking. 
Va'avo hayom el-ha'ayin va'omar Adonay Elohey adoni Avraham im-yescha-na matsliach darki asher anochi holech aleyha.

מבוָֽאָבֹ֥א הַיּ֖וֹם אֶל־הָעָ֑יִן וָֽאֹמַ֗ר יְהֹוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵי֙ אֲדֹנִ֣י אַבְרָהָ֔ם אִם־יֶשְׁךָ־נָּא֙ מַצְלִ֣יחַ דַּרְכִּ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָֽנֹכִ֖י הֹלֵ֥ךְ עָלֶֽיהָ:

24:43

I am now standing by the town well. When a girl comes out to draw water, I will say to her, 'Let me drink some water from your jug.' 
Hineh anochi nitsav al-eyn hamayim vehayah ha'almah hayotset lish'ov ve'amarti eleyha hashkini-na me'at-mayim mikadech.

מגהִנֵּ֛ה אָֽנֹכִ֥י נִצָּ֖ב עַל־עֵ֣ין הַמָּ֑יִם וְהָיָ֤ה הָֽעַלְמָה֙ הַיֹּצֵ֣את לִשְׁאֹ֔ב וְאָֽמַרְתִּ֣י אֵלֶ֔יהָ הַשְׁקִֽינִי־נָ֥א מְעַט־מַ֖יִם מִכַּדֵּֽךְ:

24:44

If she answers, 'Not only may you drink, but I will also draw water for your camels,' then she is the wife designated by God for my master's son.' 
Ve'amrah elay gam-atah sheteh vegam-ligmaleycha esh'av hi ha'ishah asher hochiach Adonay leven-adoni.

מדוְאָֽמְרָ֤ה אֵלַי֙ גַּם־אַתָּ֣ה שְׁתֵ֔ה וְגַ֥ם לִגְמַלֶּ֖יךָ אֶשְׁאָ֑ב הִ֣וא הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־הֹכִ֥יחַ יְהֹוָ֖ה לְבֶן־אֲדֹנִֽי:

24:45

'I had not yet finished speaking to myself, when Rebecca suddenly came out, carrying her jug on her shoulder. When she went down to the well and drew water, I said to her, 'Please give me a drink.' 
Ani terem achaleh ledaber el-libi vehineh Rivkah yotset vechadah al-shichmah vatered ha'ayenah vatish'av va'omar eleyha haskini na.

מהאֲנִי֩ טֶ֨רֶם אֲכַלֶּ֜ה לְדַבֵּ֣ר אֶל־לִבִּ֗י וְהִנֵּ֨ה רִבְקָ֤ה יֹצֵאת֙ וְכַדָּ֣הּ עַל־שִׁכְמָ֔הּ וַתֵּ֥רֶד הָעַ֖יְנָה וַתִּשְׁאָ֑ב וָֽאֹמַ֥ר אֵלֶ֖יהָ הַשְׁקִ֥ינִי נָֽא:

24:46

She immediately lowered her jug and said, 'Drink! I will also water your camels.' I took a drink, and she also gave the camels water. 
Vatemaher vatored kadah me'aleyha vatomer sheteh vegam-gemaleycha ashkeh va'esht vegam hagemalim hishkatah.

מווַתְּמַהֵ֗ר וַתּ֤וֹרֶד כַּדָּהּ֙ מֵֽעָלֶ֔יהָ וַתֹּ֣אמֶר שְׁתֵ֔ה וְגַם־גְּמַלֶּ֖יךָ אַשְׁקֶ֑ה וָאֵ֕שְׁתְּ וְגַ֥ם הַגְּמַלִּ֖ים הִשְׁקָֽתָה:

24:47

'I questioned her and asked, 'Whose daughter are you?' She replied, 'I am a daughter of Bethuel, son of Nachor, whom Milcah bore to him.' I then placed a ring on her nose, and bracelets on her arms. 
Va'esh'al otah va'omar bat-mi at vatomer bat-Betu'el ben-Nachor asher yaldah-lo Milkah va'asim hanezem al-apah vehatsmidim al-yadeyha.

מזוָֽאֶשְׁאַ֣ל אֹתָ֗הּ וָֽאֹמַר֘ בַּת־מִ֣י אַתְּ֒ וַתֹּ֗אמֶר בַּת־בְּתוּאֵל֙ בֶּן־נָח֔וֹר אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָֽלְדָה־לּ֖וֹ מִלְכָּ֑ה וָֽאָשִׂ֤ם הַנֶּ֨זֶם֙ עַל־אַפָּ֔הּ וְהַצְּמִידִ֖ים עַל־יָדֶֽיהָ:

24:48

I bowed low and prostrated myself to God. I blessed God, Lord of my master Abraham, who led me on a true path to get a niece of my master for his son. 
Va'ekod va'eshtachaveh la'Adonay va'avarech et-Adonay Elohey adoni Avraham asher hinchani bederech emet lakachat et-bat-achi adoni livno.

מחוָֽאֶקֹּ֥ד וָֽאֶשְׁתַּֽחֲוֶ֖ה לַֽיהֹוָ֑ה וָֽאֲבָרֵ֗ךְ אֶת־יְהֹוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵי֙ אֲדֹנִ֣י אַבְרָהָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֤ר הִנְחַ֨נִי֙ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ אֱמֶ֔ת לָקַ֛חַת אֶת־בַּת־אֲחִ֥י אֲדֹנִ֖י לִבְנֽוֹ:

24:49

'Now if you want to do what is kind and right to my master, tell me. If not, say so, and I will go to the right or to the left.' 
Ve'atah im-yeshchem osim chesed ve'emet et-adoni hagidu li ve'im-lo hagidu li ve'efneh al-yamin o al-smol.

מטוְ֠עַתָּ֠ה אִם־יֶשְׁכֶ֨ם עֹשִׂ֜ים חֶ֧סֶד וֶֽאֱמֶ֛ת אֶת־אֲדֹנִ֖י הַגִּ֣ידוּ לִ֑י וְאִם־לֹ֕א הַגִּ֣ידוּ לִ֔י וְאֶפְנֶ֥ה עַל־יָמִ֖ין א֥וֹ עַל־שְׂמֹֽאל:

24:50

Laban and Bethuel [both] spoke up. 'It is something from God!' they said. 'We cannot say anything to you, bad or good. 
Vaya'an Lavan uVetu'el vayomeru me'Adonay yatsa hadavar lo nuchal daber eleycha ra o-tov.

נוַיַּ֨עַן לָבָ֤ן וּבְתוּאֵל֙ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ מֵֽיהֹוָ֖ה יָצָ֣א הַדָּבָ֑ר לֹ֥א נוּכַ֛ל דַּבֵּ֥ר אֵלֶ֖יךָ רַ֥ע אוֹ־טֽוֹב:

24:51

Rebecca is right here in front of you. Take her and go. Let her be a wife for your master's son, as God has spoken.' 
Hineh-Rivkah lefaneycha kach valech utehi ishah leven-adoneycha ka'asher diber Adonay.

נאהִנֵּֽה־רִבְקָ֥ה לְפָנֶ֖יךָ קַ֣ח וָלֵ֑ךְ וּתְהִ֤י אִשָּׁה֙ לְבֶן־אֲדֹנֶ֔יךָ כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהֹוָֽה:

24:52

When Abraham's servant heard these words, he prostrated himself on the ground to God. 
Vayehi ka'asher shama eved Avraham et-divreyhem vayishtachu artsa la'Adonay.

נבוַיְהִ֕י כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׁמַ֛ע עֶ֥בֶד אַבְרָהָ֖ם אֶת־דִּבְרֵיהֶ֑ם וַיִּשְׁתַּ֥חוּ אַ֖רְצָה לַֽיהֹוָֽה:

24:53

Fifth Reading
The servant brought out gold and silver jewelry, as well as articles of clothing, and gave them to Rebecca. He also gaveprecious gifts to her brother and mother. 
Vayotse ha'eved kley-chesef uchley zahav uvegadim vayiten le-Rivkah umigdanot natan le'achiha ule'imah.

נגוַיּוֹצֵ֨א הָעֶ֜בֶד כְּלֵי־כֶ֨סֶף וּכְלֵ֤י זָהָב֙ וּבְגָדִ֔ים וַיִּתֵּ֖ן לְרִבְקָ֑ה וּמִ֨גְדָּנֹ֔ת נָתַ֥ן לְאָחִ֖יהָ וּלְאִמָּֽהּ:

24:54

He and his men then ate and drank, and they spent the night.

When they got up in the morning, [the servant] said, 'Let me go back to my master.' 
Vayochlu vayishtu hu veha'anashim asher-imo vayalinu vayakumu vaboker vayomer shalchuni l'adoni.

נדוַיֹּֽאכְל֣וּ וַיִּשְׁתּ֗וּ ה֛וּא וְהָֽאֲנָשִׁ֥ים אֲשֶׁר־עִמּ֖וֹ וַיָּלִ֑ינוּ וַיָּק֣וּמוּ בַבֹּ֔קֶר וַיֹּ֖אמֶר שַׁלְּחֻ֥נִי לַֽאדֹנִֽי:

24:55

[The girl's] brother and mother replied, '[At least] let the girl remain with us for another year or ten [months]. Then she can go.' 
Vayomer achiha ve'imah teshev hana'arah itanu yamim o asor achar telech.

נהוַיֹּ֤אמֶר אָחִ֨יהָ֙ וְאִמָּ֔הּ תֵּשֵׁ֨ב הַנַּֽעֲרָ֥ה (כתיב הנער) אִתָּ֛נוּ יָמִ֖ים א֣וֹ עָשׂ֑וֹר אַחַ֖ר תֵּלֵֽךְ:

24:56

'Do not delay me,' said [the servant]. 'God has already shown my mission to be successful. Let me leave, so that I can go to my master.' 
Vayomer alehem al-te'acharu oti va'Adonay hitsliach darki shalchuni ve'elechah l'adoni.

נווַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵהֶם֙ אַל־תְּאַֽחֲר֣וּ אֹתִ֔י וַֽיהֹוָ֖ה הִצְלִ֣יחַ דַּרְכִּ֑י שַׁלְּח֕וּנִי וְאֵֽלְכָ֖ה לַֽאדֹנִֽי:

24:57

'Let's call the girl and ask her personally,' they replied. 
Vayomeru nikra lana'arah venish'alah et-piha.

נזוַיֹּֽאמְר֖וּ נִקְרָ֣א לַנַּֽעֲרָ֑ה (כתיב לנער) וְנִשְׁאֲלָ֖ה אֶת־פִּֽיהָ:

24:58

They summoned Rebecca and said to her, 'Do you want to go with this man?'

'I will go,' she replied. 
Vayikre'u le-Rivkah vayomeru eleyha hatelechi im-ha'ish hazeh vatomer elech.

נחוַיִּקְרְא֤וּ לְרִבְקָה֙ וַיֹּֽאמְר֣וּ אֵלֶ֔יהָ הֲתֵֽלְכִ֖י עִם־הָאִ֣ישׁ הַזֶּ֑ה וַתֹּ֖אמֶר אֵלֵֽךְ:

24:59

They let their relative Rebecca go, along with herattendant, Abraham's servant, and his men. 
Vayeshalechu et-Rivkah achotam ve'et-meniktah ve'et eved Avraham ve'et anashav.

נטוַיְשַׁלְּח֛וּ אֶת־רִבְקָ֥ה אֲחֹתָ֖ם וְאֶת־מֵֽנִקְתָּ֑הּ וְאֶת־עֶ֥בֶד אַבְרָהָ֖ם וְאֶת־אֲנָשָֽׁיו:

24:60

They blessed Rebecca and said to her, 'Our sister, grow into thousands of myriads. May your descendants inherit the gate of their foes.' 
Vayevarchu et-Rivkah vayomru lah achotenu at chay le'alfey revavah veyirash zar'ech et sha'ar son'av.

סוַיְבָֽרְכ֤וּ אֶת־רִבְקָה֙ וַיֹּ֣אמְרוּ לָ֔הּ אֲחֹתֵ֕נוּ אַ֥תְּ הֲיִ֖י לְאַלְפֵ֣י רְבָבָ֑ה וְיִירַ֣שׁ זַרְעֵ֔ךְ אֵ֖ת שַׁ֥עַר שֽׂנְאָֽיו:

24:61

Rebecca set off with her girls, and they rode on the camels, following the stranger. The servant thus took Rebecca and left.
Vatakom Rivkah vena'aroteyha vatirkavnah al-hagemalim vatelachnah acharey ha'ish vayikach ha'eved et-Rivkah vayelach.

סאוַתָּ֨קָם רִבְקָ֜ה וְנַֽעֲרֹתֶ֗יהָ וַתִּרְכַּ֨בְנָה֙ עַל־הַגְּמַלִּ֔ים וַתֵּלַ֖כְנָה אַֽחֲרֵ֣י הָאִ֑ישׁ וַיִּקַּ֥ח הָעֶ֛בֶד אֶת־רִבְקָ֖ה וַיֵּלַֽךְ:

24:62

Isaac was on his way, coming from Beer LaChai Roi. He was then living in the Negev area. 
VeYitschak ba mibo Be'er Lachay Ro'i vehu yoshev be'erets haNegev.

סבוְיִצְחָק֙ בָּ֣א מִבּ֔וֹא בְּאֵ֥ר לַחַ֖י רֹאִ֑י וְה֥וּא יוֹשֵׁ֖ב בְּאֶ֥רֶץ הַנֶּֽגֶב:

24:63

Isaac went out to meditate in the field toward evening. He raised his eyes, and saw camels approaching. 
Vayetse Yitschak lasuach basadeh lifnot arev vayisa eynav vayar vehineh gemalim ba'im.

סגוַיֵּצֵ֥א יִצְחָ֛ק לָשׂ֥וּחַ בַּשָּׂדֶ֖ה לִפְנ֣וֹת עָ֑רֶב וַיִּשָּׂ֤א עֵינָיו֙ וַיַּ֔רְא וְהִנֵּ֥ה גְמַלִּ֖ים בָּאִֽים:

24:64

When Rebecca looked up and saw Isaac, she fell from the camel. 
Vatisa Rivkah et-eyneyha vatere et-Yitschak vatipol me'al hagamal.

סדוַתִּשָּׂ֤א רִבְקָה֙ אֶת־עֵינֶ֔יהָ וַתֵּ֖רֶא אֶת־יִצְחָ֑ק וַתִּפֹּ֖ל מֵעַ֥ל הַגָּמָֽל:

24:65

She asked the servant, 'Who is this man coming toward us in the field?'

'That is my master,' replied the servant. [Rebecca] took her veil and covered herself. 
Vatomer el-ha'eved mi-ha'ish halazeh haholech basadeh likratenu vayomer ha'eved hu adoni vatikach hatsa'if vatitkas.

סהוַתֹּ֣אמֶר אֶל־הָעֶ֗בֶד מִֽי־הָאִ֤ישׁ הַלָּזֶה֙ הַֽהֹלֵ֤ךְ בַּשָּׂדֶה֙ לִקְרָאתֵ֔נוּ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר הָעֶ֖בֶד ה֣וּא אֲדֹנִ֑י וַתִּקַּ֥ח הַצָּעִ֖יף וַתִּתְכָּֽס:

24:66

The servant told Isaac all that had happened. 
Vayesaper ha'eved le-Yitschak et kol-hadvarim asher asah

סווַיְסַפֵּ֥ר הָעֶ֖בֶד לְיִצְחָ֑ק אֵ֥ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָֽׂה:

24:67

Isaac brought [the girl] into his mother Sarah's tent, and he married Rebecca. She became his wife, and he loved her. Isaac was then consoled for the loss of his mother. 
Vayevi'eha Yitschak ha'ohelah Sarah imo vayikach et-Rivkah vatehi-lo le'ishah vaye'ehaveha vayinachem Yitschak acharey imo.
