After these events, God's word
came to Abram in a vision,
saying, 'Fear not Abram, I am
your shield. Your reward is very
great.'
Achar hadevarim ha'eleh hayah
dvar-Adonay el-Avram bamachazeh
lemor al-tira Avram anochi magen
lach scharecha harbeh me'od.

הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֗לֶּה הָיָ֤ה
דְבַר־יְהֹוָה֙ אֶל־אַבְרָ֔ם
בַּמַּֽחֲזֶ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר
אַל־תִּירָ֣א אַבְרָ֗ם אָֽנֹכִי֙
מָגֵ֣ן לָ֔ךְ שְׂכָֽרְךָ֖
הַרְבֵּ֥ה מְאֹֽד:

15:2
|
Abram said, 'O Lord, God, what
will you give me if I remain
childless? The heir to
my household will beDamascus
Eliezer.'
Vayomer Avram Adonay Elohim
mah-titen-li ve'anochi holech

בוַיֹּ֣אמֶר
אַבְרָ֗ם אֲדֹנָ֤י יֱהֹוִה֙
מַה־תִּתֶּן־לִ֔י וְאָֽנֹכִ֖י
הוֹלֵ֣ךְ עֲרִירִ֑י וּבֶן־מֶ֣שֶׁק
בֵּיתִ֔י ה֖וּא דַּמֶּ֥שֶׂק
אֱלִיעֶֽזֶר:

15:3
|
Abram continued, 'You have given
me no children. A member of my
household will inherit what is
mine.'
Vayomer Avram hen li lo natatah
zara vehineh ven-beyti yoresh
oti.

גוַיֹּ֣אמֶר
אַבְרָ֔ם הֵ֣ן לִ֔י לֹ֥א
נָתַ֖תָּה זָ֑רַע וְהִנֵּ֥ה
בֶן־בֵּיתִ֖י יוֹרֵ֥שׁ אֹתִֽי:

15:4
|
Suddenly God's
word came to him: 'That one will
not be your heir! One born from
your own body will inherit what
is yours.'
Vehineh dvar Adonay elav lemor
lo yirashecha zeh ki-im asher
yetse mime'echa hu yirashecha.

דוְהִנֵּ֨ה
דְבַר־יְהֹוָ֤ה אֵלָיו֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר
לֹ֥א יִירָֽשְׁךָ֖ זֶ֑ה כִּי־אִם֙
אֲשֶׁ֣ר יֵצֵ֣א מִמֵּעֶ֔יךָ ה֖וּא
יִֽירָשֶֽׁךָ:

15:5
|
He then took [Abram] outside and
said, 'Look at the sky and count
the stars. See if you can count
them.' [God] then said to him,
'That is how [numerous] your
descendants will be.'

hakochavim im-tuchal lispor otam
vayomer lo koh yihyeh zar'echa.

הוַיּוֹצֵ֨א
אֹת֜וֹ הַח֗וּצָה וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙
הַבֶּט־נָ֣א הַשָּׁמַ֔יְמָה
וּסְפֹר֙ הַכּ֣וֹכָבִ֔ים
אִם־תּוּכַ֖ל לִסְפֹּ֣ר אֹתָ֑ם
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֔וֹ כֹּ֥ה יִֽהְיֶ֖ה
זַרְעֶֽךָ:

|
[Abram] believed in God, and He
counted it as righteousness.
Vehe'emin b'Adonay vayachsheveha
lo tsedakah.
|

ווְהֶֽאֱמִ֖ן
בַּֽיהֹוָ֑ה וַיַּחְשְׁבֶ֥הָ
לּ֖וֹ צְדָקָֽה:
|

15:7
|
Sixth Reading
[God] said to him, 'I am God who
took you out of Ur Casdim to
give you this land as a possession.'
Vayomer elav ani Adonay asher
hotseticha me'Ur Kasdim latet
lecha et-ha'arets hazot
lerishtah.

זוַיֹּ֖אמֶר
אֵלָ֑יו אֲנִ֣י יְהֹוָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר
הֽוֹצֵאתִ֨יךָ֙ מֵא֣וּר
כַּשְׂדִּ֔ים לָ֧תֶת לְךָ֛
אֶת־הָאָ֥רֶץ הַזֹּ֖את
לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ:

15:8
|
'O Lord, God,' replied [Abram],
'How can I really know that it
will be mine?'
Vayomar Adonay Elohim bamah eda
ki irashenah.

חוַיֹּאמַ֑ר
אֲדֹנָ֣י יֱהֹוִ֔ה בַּמָּ֥ה
אֵדַ֖ע כִּ֥י אִֽירָשֶֽׁנָּה:

15:9
|
[God] said to him, 'Bring for Me
a prime heifer,
a prime goat, a prime ram, a dove
and a young pigeon.'
Vayomer elav kecha li eglah
meshuleshet ve'ez meshuleshet
ve'ayl meshulash vetor vegozal.

טוַיֹּ֣אמֶר
אֵלָ֗יו קְחָ֥ה לִי֙ עֶגְלָ֣ה
מְשֻׁלֶּ֔שֶׁת וְעֵ֥ז
מְשֻׁלֶּ֖שֶׁת וְאַ֣יִל
מְשֻׁלָּ֑שׁ וְתֹ֖ר וְגוֹזָֽל:

|
יוַיִּקַּח־ל֣וֹ
אֶת־כָּל־אֵ֗לֶּה וַיְבַתֵּ֤ר
אֹתָם֙ בַּתָּ֔וֶךְ וַיִּתֵּ֥ן
אִֽישׁ־בִּתְר֖וֹ לִקְרַ֣את
רֵעֵ֑הוּ וְאֶת־הַצִּפֹּ֖ר לֹ֥א
בָתָֽר:

|
Vultures descended on the
carcasses, but Abram drove them
away.
Vayered ha'ayit al-hapgarim
vayashev otam Avram.

יאוַיֵּ֥רֶד
הָעַ֖יִט עַל־הַפְּגָרִ֑ים
וַיַּשֵּׁ֥ב אֹתָ֖ם אַבְרָֽם:

15:12
|
When the sun was setting, Abram
fell into a trance, and he was
stricken by a deep dark dread.
Vayehi hashemesh lavo vetardemah
naflah al-Avram vehineh eymah
chashechah gdolah nofelet alav.
|
|
יבוַיְהִ֤י
הַשֶּׁ֨מֶשׁ֙ לָב֔וֹא
וְתַרְדֵּמָ֖ה נָֽפְלָ֣ה
עַל־אַבְרָ֑ם וְהִנֵּ֥ה אֵימָ֛ה
חֲשֵׁכָ֥ה גְדֹלָ֖ה נֹפֶ֥לֶת
עָלָֽיו:

15:13
|
[God] said to Abram, 'Know for
sure that your descendants will
be foreigners in a land that is
not theirs for 400
years. They
will be enslaved and oppressed.
Vayomer le-Avram yadoa teda
ki-ger yihyeh zar'acha be'erets
lo lahem va'avadum ve'inu otam
arba me'ot shanah.

יגוַיֹּ֣אמֶר
לְאַבְרָ֗ם יָדֹ֨עַ תֵּדַ֜ע
כִּי־גֵ֣ר | יִֽהְיֶ֣ה זַרְעֲךָ֗
בְּאֶ֨רֶץ֙ לֹ֣א לָהֶ֔ם
וַֽעֲבָד֖וּם וְעִנּ֣וּ אֹתָ֑ם
אַרְבַּ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָֽה:

15:14
|
But I will finally bring
judgment against the nation who
enslaves them, and they will
then leave with great wealth.
Vegam et-hagoy asher ya'avodu
dan anochi ve'acharey-chen
yets'u birechush gadol.

|
ידוְגַ֧ם
אֶת־הַגּ֛וֹי אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַֽעֲבֹ֖דוּ
דָּ֣ן אָנֹ֑כִי וְאַֽחֲרֵי־כֵ֥ן
יֵֽצְא֖וּ בִּרְכֻ֥שׁ גָּדֽוֹל:

15:15
|
You shall join your fathers in
peace, and you will be buried at
a good old age.
Ve'atah tavo el-avoteycha
beshalom tikaver beseyvah tovah.
|

טווְאַתָּ֛ה
תָּב֥וֹא אֶל־אֲבֹתֶ֖יךָ
בְּשָׁל֑וֹם תִּקָּבֵ֖ר
בְּשֵׂיבָ֥ה טוֹבָֽה:
|
|
|
15:16
|
The fourth
generation will
return here, since the Amorite's
sin will not have run its course
until then.'
Vedor revi'i yashuvu henah ki

רְבִיעִ֖י יָשׁ֣וּבוּ הֵ֑נָּה
כִּ֧י לֹֽא־שָׁלֵ֛ם עֲוֹ֥ן
הָֽאֱמֹרִ֖י עַד־הֵֽנָּה:

15:17
|
The sun set, and it became very
dark. A smoking furnace and a
flaming torch passed between the
halves of the animals.
Vayehi hashemesh ba'ah va'alatah
hayah vehineh tanur ashan
velapid esh asher avar beyn
hagezarim ha'eleh.

יזוַיְהִ֤י
הַשֶּׁ֨מֶשׁ֙ בָּ֔אָה וַֽעֲלָטָ֖ה
הָיָ֑ה וְהִנֵּ֨ה תַנּ֤וּר
עָשָׁן֙ וְלַפִּ֣יד אֵ֔שׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר
עָבַ֔ר בֵּ֖ין הַגְּזָרִ֥ים
הָאֵֽלֶּה:

|
On that day, God made a covenant
with Abram, saying, 'To your
descendants I have given this
land, from theEgyptian
River as far
as the great river, the Euphrates;
Bayom hahu karat Adonay et-Avram
brit lemor lezar'acha natati
et-ha'arets hazot minehar
Mitsrayim ad-hanahar hagadol
nehar-Perat.

יחבַּיּ֣וֹם
הַה֗וּא כָּרַ֧ת יְהֹוָ֛ה
אֶת־אַבְרָ֖ם בְּרִ֣ית לֵאמֹ֑ר
לְזַרְעֲךָ֗ נָתַ֨תִּי֙
אֶת־הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֔את מִנְּהַ֣ר
מִצְרַ֔יִם עַד־הַנָּהָ֥ר
הַגָּדֹ֖ל נְהַר־פְּרָֽת:

יטאֶת־הַקֵּינִי֙
וְאֶת־הַקְּנִזִּ֔י וְאֵ֖ת
הַקַּדְמֹנִֽי:
|
|
|
|
כוְאֶת־הַֽחִתִּ֥י
וְאֶת־הַפְּרִזִּ֖י
וְאֶת־הָֽרְפָאִֽים:
|
|
|
|
כאוְאֶת־הָֽאֱמֹרִי֙ וְאֶת־הַכְּנַֽעֲנִ֔י וְאֶת־הַגִּרְגָּשִׁ֖י
וְאֶת־הַיְבוּסִֽי:
|
